Year At A Glance

Parents, we know that planning life can be complicated, with loads of different activities, hobbies, sports, etc. that students are involved in.  As you plan it’s nice to know ahead of time what’s coming up to help plan and budget.  So, although this list is subject to change regularly, we wanted to give you a general idea of what you can expect throughout the year.

Weekly Events

  • Small Groups. Ideally small groups meet every week but depending on the group and their circumstances, they could meet every week (on a day chosen by the group itself) or every other week.  Each small group leader will communicate with parents ahead of time to make sure they know the time and day when small groups are meeting.

Monthly Events

  • Mid-Sized Community. Every month we are trying to provide at least one event that people from each mid-sized community can participate in.   Sometimes these events are exclusive to the specific grade level (i.e. 9 & 10) and sometimes they are events for the whole community that happen outside of the Sunday night worship experience.  They will most likely happen on Friday nights and can cost anywhere from $5 to $20 depending on the event.  They may happen on site at Cedarview or off site.

Annual Events

  • Retreats. Every year we try to do two retreats, a Fall retreat sometime in October or November and a Spring retreat sometime in April or May.  These retreats happen throughout the entire weekend and usually mean showing up at the church for 6pm on Friday and returning for 3 or 4pm on Sunday.  These retreats can range in price depending on the location and program details but generally hover around $150.
  • Banquets. There are two major banquets on the Student Ministry calendar.  One in June geared toward high school grads and one in December geared toward all high school, college and university students and their families.  These are usually formal events with a meal and cost around $20.
  • Camping. Every summer we do at least one camping trip for high school and young adult students.  This is typically a 2 night campout in tents complete with food cooked over a fire, gathering wood for a fire, swimming and then hanging around by the fire.  This is a fun opportunity to relax, get away from the city for a few days and just enjoy hanging out in the great outdoors.  These camping trips happen in July and usually cost around $75.
