Small Groups

One of the most prevalent trends in ministry over the last number of years are small groups.  Small groups have become essential to many life formation pathways as churches wrestle with how to equip people with the values and teachings of Jesus.
Here at Cedarview we believe that small groups are a great tool at helping people discover more about themselves and more about God.  We also know that small groups aren’t for everyone.  There are people out there who won’t connect in a small group environment so instead of forcing them to participate we want to make small groups something anyone can choose to be involved in.
Small groups in theadvance community are about caring and accountable friendships.  They are about creating space for students to study and explore God’s Word where they can challenge each other to live out what they learn.
The journey is often rough and small groups are a great way for students to hold each other up and encourage each other, especially when someone is not doing so well.
Small groups at theadvance happen outside of the worship experience and usually happen in someone’s home.  Each group is given the flexibility to determine what night is the best night for them to meet and how often.
Small groups are split up primarily by grade and gender.  Similar to mid-sized community groups they are split up into grade 9/10 clusters, 11/12 clusters and young adult clusters.  In grades 9 and 10 the groups are gender-specific but the option to have mixed gender small groups is given to students in grades 11 and up.  We do this because we believe that students can learn from each other and different perspectives help us all to grow.
Small groups will be no larger than 10 and usually will comprise between 3 and 6 people including a leader.  By limiting the size of these groups we enable more discussion and give small group leaders more opportunity to invest directly in students lives.
